The West Bank Union at the University of Minnesota was established in 1967 to offer services to students. In 1965, the Standard Oil (Indiana) Foundation provided the University of Minnesota with two monetary awards in the amount of $1,500 each to be given to faculty members who made outstanding contributions to undergraduate education. In 1967, the award was renamed the Standard Oil Foundation-Horace T. Morse Award, after Horace T. Morse, dean of General College, who died in 1966.
